Royalty Free Music Kinda Sucks But Here’s Why We Still Use It
Let’s be honest for a second.
Most royalty free music is not great.
You have definitely heard it before. The upbeat corporate clapping. The acoustic guitar that sounds like it was recorded in a coffee shop at 9am. The cinematic build that feels like it is about to drop and then just never does.
If you have ever watched a video and thought why does this feel kinda fake or generic the answer is probably the music.
And yeah we feel it too. We work in video every single day. We know when a track feels stocky. We know when it feels forced. We know when it is doing the absolute bare minimum.
So Why Not Just Use Better Music
Because better music usually comes with a whole lot of problems.
Using popular songs without permission can get your video muted taken down flagged or straight up pulled off a platform. It can mess with ad accounts kill reach and sometimes get clients in trouble without them even knowing why.
No one wants that. Especially over a song.
Even if the music is perfect for the edit if you do not have the rights it is just not worth the risk.
Royalty Free Music Is the Necessary Evil
Royalty free music exists so creators can actually post their work without stressing every time they hit upload.
It lets brands run ads. It lets businesses post on multiple platforms. It lets content live longer than a few hours before it gets hit with a copyright notice.
Is it exciting most of the time no. Is it safe legal and reliable yes.
And that matters more than people realize.
The Real Skill Is Making It Not Feel Stock
Here is the thing though. The music is not supposed to be the star.
The edit is.
Good pacing. Clean cuts. Strong visuals. Sound design that actually makes sense. Knowing when to let the music sit in the background instead of trying to carry the whole video.
We spend more time than you would think digging through tracks trying to find ones that do not scream stock footage vibes. We cut around beats naturally and keep music low enough that it supports the story instead of taking it over.
If you do not notice the music that usually means the video is working.
Would We Love Unlimited Access To Any Song Ever
Absolutely.
But until there is a legal affordable way to do that we work within the rules.
Royalty free music is not perfect. It is not sexy. It is not always inspiring.
But it lets creators keep creating brands keep posting and businesses keep growing without risking everything on one song choice.
And when it is done right you barely notice it at all. Which honestly means we did our job.
